Tourism of Lecco

In 2013 the city was awarded the title of “Alpine City of the Year” while in 2017 it was elected
the most romantic city in the lake area of northern Italy, after Bergamo and followed by Varenna,
according to the prestigious ranking drawn up by the well-known American tourist portal CNN
Travel.
After the splendors of the industrial era, the city has focused on the tourist promotion of the places
praised in the novel “I promessi sposi” by Alessandro Manzoni, especially its lake and the nearby
mountains.

The small villages have particularly become famous with I promessi sposi, and they
register the largest number of tourists, especially the neighborhood of Pescarenico, still enclosed
around Piazza Era and narrow streets along the Adda river. The season of greatest tourist influx is
the period between March and October but, thanks to the various theme events, the territory
accounts presences throughout the year especially from Germany and the Netherlands.
The infopoint headquarters has recently transferred in the prestigious location of Palazzo delle
Paure in the heart of Lecco. This change represents the first step to a wider project, which aims at
creating a crucial space where cultural, artistic and museal areas are associated with promotional
and informative tourism.

Due to the strategic position of Lecco on the shores of Lake Como, the wide tourist offer provides a campsite in Rivabella and a well-equipped lido in Pradello, where you can rent pedal boats, canoes
and boats without a license. In addition to the historical center, the Manzonian itinerary and the
museums, there are other small pearls, not widely known but yet very suggestive, such as the small
cemetery of Laorca, perched at the foot of Corno Medale among rocky spurs, caves and ravines,
that hosts several private chapels of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the ancient
cemetery church of San Giovanni ai morti and the chapels of the Via Crucis.
The whole area can be considered a sacred mountain which has been the object of strong devotion
for centuries; from its terraces you can enjoy the breathtaking panorama over the city of Lecco and
the lake. Defended by the inhabitants of the neighborhood, it still waits to be discovered and
appreciated by tourists.
